Chris Rosebrough of Fighting for the Faith and Pirate Christian Radio weighs in on the viral 2014 Hillsong London hoochie, coochie video featuring the wholesale butchery of the classic "Silent Night"...
What is a Hoochie Coochie?
"The hoochie coochie was a sexually provocative belly dance term that originated at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition in 1876. It became wildly popular during and after the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. Described by the New York Journal in 1893 as "Neither dancing of the head nor the feet", it was a dance performed by women of, or presented as having, an Eastern European gypsy heritage, often as part of travelling sideshows. Gooch, goochie or gootchie was apparently already a term in the American South for a woman's vagina, and hoochie coochie has been suggested as referring directly to sex.
Quite fitting for Hillsong don't you think? Not the least of which the "Traveling Sideshow" part.
In addition to the unending gimmickry and metastasizing worldliness of Hillsong Incorporated, Chris takes a look at Hillsong's mandatory tithe and offering guilt trip in typical Bobby Houston, scripture twisting style. Many "churches" of this ilk now incorporate a dedicated lecture apart from the "sermon" for the wholesale guilting of the congregation to give beyond what they have determined (even if that is nothing) (2 Corinthians 9:7). Such "sermons" are completely unethical, not to mention unbiblical, even so Hillsong Inc. will not be deterred.
Great [short] review, worth the time it takes to hear.
